Whichever flat, pyramid or lantern glazing solution you choose; it will require a kerb upstand. This is an essential part of the installation process as it lifts your glazing up from the roof level as these products are not designed to be submerged and should have a pitch to allow rain or snow to fall away from the glass. Purchasing your kerb from your skylight supplier is always a good idea as this ensures the your kerb upstand fits well and should mean that your project meets the requirements of Building Regulation for flat roof applications.
We now offer a high quality kerb to accompany our NuDawn range of flat, pyramid and lantern glazing solutions. Whilst these are optional to purchase with your NuDawn rooflight we would recommend that you consider using our rooflight kerb and it offers significant benefits over most site built alternatives. In addition to our exceptional build quality, a NuDawn insulated kerb offers industry-leading U-values of just 0.3W/m2K and is constructed from a reinforced sandwich panel design. Not only that but a NuDawn kerb using marine ply on the external face and bottom to provide unrivalled protection and lifespan.
Like all our products, we design and manufacture our kerb upstands in the UK so you can rest assured that the quality of the materials used in our kerbs are of the highest standard, built to last and strong enough to provide the support required.
In addition to the kerbs listed on our site, we can also produce bespoke kerb upstands to match your skylight requirements.
Unlike some skylight suppliers, there is no assembly required with our kerbs as they arrive complete and ready to install onto your roof. We also supply the fixing brackets which are used to attach the kerb upstand to your roof structure.
Using a NuDawn kerb upstand ensures that your skylight has a solid foundation and uses long lasting materials. It removes the worry over whether a site built kerb will be the right size and also whether the quality of materials used will be strong enough or last the test of time. Contractors know that by using a NuDawn kerb upstand the installation of the skylight will take only a matter of minutes. A NuDawn kerb upstand not only provides assistance for your builder, it also provides peace of mind for you.
We also aim to deliver our kerb upstands ahead of the skylight, meaning that your roofer or builder can weather the roof in readiness for the glazing, ensuring that the entire roofing structure is safe and secure.
In addition to the lifespan and appearance benefits offered by a NuDawn kerb upstand they offer outstanding energy benefits too. All NuDawn kerb upstands are fully insulated with a U-value of 0.3W/m2K which also eliminates the risk of condensation.
Whilst there are some companies who sell their skylights with integral kerb upstands, ours are completely separate to ensure that in the unlikely event there was a problem with the skylight or roof membrane, you can detach the skylight for repair without damaging and compromising the entire structure. The NuDawn kerb upstand also deals with the other issue associated with integral upstands which is the required height by building regulations of 150mm at the lowest point from a flat roof. Many of the companies selling integral kerbs upstands do not achieve this.
Our kerb upstands are handmade in the UK using high quality materials. Not only do we use marine ply but the kerbs are insulated and use steel internal corner brackets to provide support to the structure. This does mean that our kerb upstands can seem a little expensive when compared with other companies but with a NuDawn kerb you can be sure that not only will it last but it will support the weight of your skylight. As with most things, you get what you pay for and whilst it will undoubtedly be cheaper to knock up a kerb onsite using some old pallets; do you really want to take the risk?
You can purchase your NuDawn kerb upstand knowing that you don’t have to worry about any onsite hassle and that it will be accurate whilst ensuring your roof window fits properly, at the right angle, and without the risk of future issues.
